Adhesive Characteristics For Custom Printed Pressure Sensitive Labels

February 4, 2012

Different label applications may require different adhesives.  For example, you may have a label application that is temporary in nature, say a “HOLD” tag.  In that case, you may want to consider a removable adhesive.

Here are some common pressure sensitive label adhesives and their associated characteristics:

  • Permanent Adhesive—This is  the most common adhesive used for pressure sensitive labels.  It is appropriate for most applications.  Labels with permanent adhesive cannot be removed without leaving a residue of adhesive behind once they have bonded completely to the surface to which they have been applied.
  • Removable Adhesive—Used for temporary label applications.  A label with removable adhesive will come off of the surface to which it is applied without leaving a residue.  Please note that the removable feature is not indefinite but for a limited time.  The longer the label remains on the surface to which it is applied, the more adhesion it attains.
  • Ultra-Removable Adhesive—This adhesive can be easily removed and re-applied (similar to Post-It Notes™ adhesive).  It is great for counter labeling, sale labeling, mouse pads, shelf labeling, and other temporary label applications.  Ultra-removable adhesive is available on  PressAbels labels offered by KC & CO.

If you have any doubts about the suitability of an adhesive for a particular label application, always request samples and test them on the material to which they will be applied and in the environment in which they will be used.  Free sample packs are available from KC & CO. upon request.
